COURT HOUSE – May 10: Following four days that the county reported double-digit increases in COVID-19 cases, Mother’s Day brought only five new confirmed cases, the lowest number for a single day since May 2. It is difficult to know if this is a lull in the rate of growth of the virus spread or an artifact of reporting on the holiday.
Lower and Upper townships each had two new cases in today’s report, with Ocean City seeing one additional case. The county’s total case count edged up to 463, with 135 of those active.
The number of individuals off quarantine remained 196.  The death count associated with the virus stayed 32.
For the first day since May 1, there were no new cases reported in the county’s long-term care facilities, which had seen significant growth in cases in the last week. The five news cases were all community-based.
The state reported a continued downturn in COVID-19 hospitalizations, which are now at levels almost 50% lower than they were at their peak April 14. State-wide the rate of increases in new cases also continues to slow, with 1,503 reported today.
These bring the state total case number since COVID-19 first made it appearance in New Jersey to 138,532.
New fatalities reported by state officials were 140, making the current death toll in the struggle with the virus 9,255.
