Cape May Council Sees Plans for Kiwanis Park Rejuvenation

The pond at Kiwanis Park in Cape May

By Vince Conti

CAPE MAY – At its Aug. 2 meeting, Cape May City Council saw a presentation by landscape architect Nichol Welsh, of Engineering Design Associates, on plans for a project at Kiwanis Park.

The city received a state Department of Community Affairs grant for improving Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) access at the park. The design presented to the council showed a plan that will result in park improvements for all users while still meeting the goals of ADA-specific access enhancements.

The goal is “inclusion” Welsh said, as she outlined improvements to ground cover, playground equipment, and even parking.

City Engineer Vince Orlando, a principal with Design Associates, projected an imminent bidding process with construction beginning as early as fall.

Those interested in seeing the entire presentation can do so via the YouTube video of the Aug. 2 council meeting, which is available on the city’s website.
