Butt Bins Beautify Beaches

City Administrator Ronald Simone

By Rachel Rogish

NORTH WILDWOOD – North Wildwood City Council passed a resolution May 7, approving $10,000 from a 2019 Sustainable Jersey Grant. The grant’s purpose is for cigarette-butt receptacles, an idea a few years in the making, according to City Administrator Ronald Simone. Simone and Mayor Patrick Rosenello researched the harmful environmental impact of cigarette butts as “ocean trash.” The grant fully funds the project and poses no costs to taxpayers. Public Works would make appropriate signage. Simone said once the butts are collected they will be shipped for free to Terracycle in Trenton where the waste will be recycled.
