COURT HOUSE — The Cape May County Bookmobile has a new look – it’s been wrapped and made its debut Oct. 17 .
So…keep those eyes open, and look around; readers won’t want to miss it. It’s big, blue, beautiful … an underwater odyssey on wheels, according to a release.
The bookmobile features Nat Conley and his sister Allison of Dennisville reading stories in protective bubbles as they float in an underwater scene as sea turtles, dolphins, fish, a ray and shark swim about a bright blue watery background. A jolly pelican on the rear invites everyone to “Come aboard.”
The goal of the bookmobile is to bring the library to the community. A Cape May County Library Card is all that is needed to use the bookmobile.
Those lacking a library card may get one on the bookmobile.
The bookmobile carries approximately 1,500 titles offering juvenile and adult reading material along with audio books, videos and DVDs. A lift is available for those requiring assistance and material can be returned to any Cape May County Library Branch.
Over 100 Special Title Presented
Also on Oct. 17, the county Department of Human Services along with the Atlantic-Cape Family Support Organization ws at the County Library to present the library with an array of books and DVDS about parenting children with special needs.
More than 100 items are being donated covering topics such as ADHD, eating disorders, depression, autism, Tourette Syndrome, conduct disorder and challenges of early childhood and teenage years. Also included is a series of DVDs for foster parents who open their homes to children of all ages who may have emotional issues.
The Cape May County Department of Human Services received a grant from the New Jersey Department of Children and Families for the project and partnered with the Atlantic-Cape Family Support Organization (FSO) to select the items to be donated.
The suggestions came from county families who participate in the support groups that are offered by FSO. These parents live everyday with children who have special emotional challenges in their lives.
The books will be catalogued and placed in the general stacks at the Cape May Court House Library adding to the diverse selection already available at the library.
