NEWARK, NJ – Ahead of Veterans Day, U.S. Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) today released a comprehensive resource guide designed to help New Jersey veterans with the transition from military to civilian life. The 2019 handbook, which is available online here, has been redesigned and contains updated healthcare resources for female and LGBTQ+ veterans.
“Veterans Day is a time for us to reflect upon the sacrifices our service men and service women have made defending our freedoms,” stated Booker. “Their commitment to the ideals of our nation, their service, and their advocacy should serve as an inspiration to all Americans.
“Caring for our nation’s veterans is one of our most sacred responsibilities as Americans, and while we have made progress, there is still much left to do. This handbook helps honor that commitment by connecting our veterans to critical resources that assist their transition to civilian life. From information on health benefits and housing to employment opportunities and education programs, this guide will help set New Jersey’s veterans up for success.
“I’m proud to serve as a voice in the U.S. Senate for the more than 400,000 veterans who call New Jersey home. Without the selfless service of our troops and sacrifices of their families, we would not be able to enjoy the freedoms that make the United States of America a beacon of light for the world.”
As part of his continued commitment to supporting those who served in our nation’s Armed Forces, on Monday Senator Booker will be joined by New Jersey student veterans at the Rutgers Office of Veteran and Military Programs and Services in New Brunswick to announce the introduction of legislation that would address the critical gaps in current U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs education benefits.
