AVALON – The state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has recognized the navigation hazard that once again is causing Avalon’s Pennsylvania Harbor to require an emergency dredging, even though one was done just two years ago.
At the Avalon Council meeting, June 14, borough engineer Thomas Thornton was able to tell the governing body that the needed permit from the DEP to move ahead with the dredging is “in hand.”
The borough planned to go out to bid for the work by June 16, with the municipality expecting to be able to make an award at the council’s June 28 meeting.
