AVALON – Recreation Director Charles McDonnell Jr. briefed Avalon Borough Council on an unusual special event that may take place June 5.
McDonnell was responding to requests from members of the Recreation Advisory Council for a “full moon” party on the beach at 30th Street. Although the origins are in some dispute, many credit Thailand with beginning the tradition in 1983.
The issue was brought to the governing body in part because the municipality has an ordinance that forbids fires on the beach.
Part of the plan for the event includes a small bonfire on the beach, which would need the council’s approval.
McDonnell admitted that a great deal of planning is necessary before a party is definite.
