AVALON MANOR – Middle Township Planning Board had a scheduled hearing March 14 on an application to significantly alter the Avalon Marine Center as part of a larger shift of the marina to a more recreational use.
The plans include a 150-plus-seat restaurant and bar on the water. They have generated opposition within the bayfront community.
The application, when it was scheduled for March 14, involved the need for a use variance for the restaurant. It also sought waivers for the requirement for a community impact statement and an environmental assessment. Parking is another significant issue that will have to be addressed.
The March 14 hearing was rescheduled for the March 23 board meeting, but the hearing was again postponed. The Planning Board cancelled its meeting April 11, and the Avalon Marine Center application was not on the agenda for the April 27 meeting.
It is an application that has generated a significant amount of controversy. The Herald will report on it when it does happen.
