AVALON – The Avalon Planning and Zoning Board made some progress toward initiating a hospitality consultant review of the borough’s business district.
The discussion on using a consultant to help evaluate policy options for improving the business district grew out of a renewed proposal for a boutique hotel in the district and miles from the borough’s hotel zone. It has been an active discussion for several months as the borough seeks options for revitalizing the district.
At the April 11 meeting of the Planning and Zoning Board, board engineer Joseph Maffei said he had developed an RFP (request for proposal) which was distributed to a half-dozen consultancies. Only two bids were received, and they were widely divergent in price, Maffei said.
He added that the board would review the bids.
A discussion and possible award are expected as part of the board’s May agenda.
