AVALON — Borough Council seeks to trademark the slogan “Cooler by a Mile.”
Council President Charles Covington brought it up for discussion during an Aug. 26 meeting.
The borough’s long-time slogan and logo is currently unprotected and an Internet company is using it for merchandise, he said.
Council members said they don’t want the borough’s namesake to appear on certain products, like beer mugs.
Council enlisted a trademark lawyer, who advised that they would first need to prove ownership and determine its first use.
Covington said the logo and slogan has been used in all of his 18 years on council.
Business Administrator Andy Bednarek said the aggregate cost for three categories of trademark would be about $4,000.
