Are Flood Warning Signs Working Properly?

By Camille Sailer

SEA ISLE CITY – At its Oct. 8 meeting, Sea Isle City Council members heard from a resident concerned about the various roadside lights that flash when flooding is taking place.
“Last week, some were flashing, but there was no high water on the road, and others were not flashing when they should have been. These lights cost money, so I’m wondering why they are not functioning properly.”
Council President J.B. Feeley asked Police Chief Thomas McQuillen for his insights.
“The police department can override programmed sensors depending on circumstances,” said McQuillen, “but in this case, last Wednesday (Oct. 2), we had a cellular outage, so, you’re right, the lights were not functioning as they should have. We’ve now fixed that glitch, and everything should be back to normal.”
