ACE Upgrade Project Quiets Down

such as “hot spots” where equipment could be heating up and cause future issues.

By Camille Sailer

PETERSBURG – Upper Township residents might be getting a break from all the noise above them.
Upper Township’s municipal engineer Paul Dietrich informed the township committee and the general public that Atlantic City Electric (ACE) will not be using its large Chinook helicopter on the company’s upgrade project “for the next few weeks from now until about Thanksgiving.”
“The small helicopters probably won’t be needed any longer on Sundays and the locations of helicopter movements will be moving away from Beesley’s Point,” Dietrich explained.
The ACE project will, according to company information, replace existing lattice transmission towers with new, stronger steel transmission poles that can handle more extreme weather and reduce the impact of severe storms.
The project is forecast to last until May 2023. Some neighbors in the Beesley’s Point section of Upper Township have been vociferous in protesting about the continuous noise on social media. They claim the noise from the helicopters continues through most daylight hours and even on Sundays.
