VILLAS – Three members of Lower Township Council were sworn in Jan. 4 for new, four-year terms after being reelected in the 2022 general election.
First Ward Councilman Thomas Conrad, Second Ward Councilman Kevin Coombs, and Third Ward Councilman Roland Roy were all administered the oath of office for repeat terms.
Conrad was sworn in for his fifth consecutive term and is the longest serving council member. He completed 16 years as the First Ward councilman.
Conrad said his biggest accomplishments include helping to save the Lower Township Municipal Utilities Authority from efforts to dissolve it, creating a water/sewer department, and advancing projects to improve drainage in the municipality.
“I’m not one for pushing splashy projects. I’m more about making Lower Township a better place to live,” Conrad said.
He said he has tried to promote projects to improve the municipality without increasing the tax rate. He said he has always attempted to do his work according to scouting outdoor ethics, which is to “leave no trace.”
Coombs was first appointed to council Feb. 19, 2020, when David Perry left the Second Ward seat to become deputy mayor. Roy was first appointed to fill a vacancy Jan. 18, 2017, when Erik Simonsen, who is now a state assemblyman, became mayor.
