COURT HOUSE – Freeholder Vice-Director Ralph E. Sheets Jr. announced that the 27th Basic Course for Police Officers graduation ceremony will take place Thursday, Jan. 22, at 4 p.m. at the Middle Township Performing Arts Center located at 212 Bayberry Road.
In addition to Sheets, retired Wildwood police chief and mayor, the class will hear Cape May County Sheriff Gary Schaffer, who will deliver the keynote address.
Fifteen police officers from six municipalities in New Jersey and alternate route trainees will graduate after completing a 22-week training program at the Cape May County Police Academy. The Academy is the only residential based training center in the state of New Jersey for municipal recruit training.
The class started with a physical fitness average of 73.61 percent and finished with an average of 91.52 percent. The body fat percentage dropped from 19.66 percent to 13.1 percent.
Also, they lost a total of 61 inches from their waists and 98 pounds. The Class final academic average was 92.34 percent and their firearm average was 94.9 percent.
Class president is Matthew Barber, an alternate route trainee, elected by class members. The class motto is, “No Sacrifice – No Victory.”
Individual awards will include:
High Academic Award: Matthew Barber, Alternate Route 96.2 percent
Vehicle Operations Award: Officer Ryan Clary, Cape May County Sheriff’s Department 25.69 seconds
Physical Fitness Award: Elliott Gray, Alternate Route 98.3 percent
Firearms Award: Anes Hadzifejzovic, Alternate Route 98.8 percent
Directors Award – Overall Class Ranking First: Officer Chris Vivarelli, Ocean City Police Department
Police Training Commission Merit Award: Announced at graduation
