Learn about the influences of classical music in jazz at the March installment of free monthly music lectures by Paul M. Somers, sponsored by the Bay-Atlantic Symphony.
This last part of a three-month series examining various influences by and to classical music is entitled “Mills College’s French Refugee” and explores how jazz became high art, as well as the development of the synthesis of classical music and jazz called “Third Stream Music.”
The lectures, which will take place on Tuesday nights from 7 to 8:30 p.m., will March 17, at the Millville Public Library, 210 Buck St., Millville; and on March 24, at the Avalon Free Public Library, 235 32nd St., Avalon.
Subsequent lectures will include a chance to have your musical questions answered in April, and a Fresh Ears® experience in May.
Somers, is a composer, performer, founder of the Classical New Jersey Society and Maurice River Music, and was a reviewer for the Star-Ledger.
