Stone Harbor, Neighboring Fire Companies Battle Condo Blaze

STONE HARBOR – The Stone Harbor Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 8811 Third Ave., Oct. 29 at 11:14 p.m.
According to the department’s Facebook page, the first alarm was for Stone Harbor’s Station 13, Tower 70, Engine 70 (Court House, and Squad 73 (Green Creek RIT).
Quint 13, under the command of Deputy Chief Bob McClure, responded with five firefighters.
Upon arrival, heavy fire was showing from the second-floor window, with fire extending to the third floor.
Crews from Quint 13 made an interior attack on the condominium unit involved and quickly knocked down fire.
The fire entered the attic and roof area of the building, which required a second alarm.
The second alarm consisted of Squad 72 (Rio Grande), Engine 18 (Dennisville), and Tower 11 (Avalon).
The fire was placed under control within 45 minutes. Avalon covered Stone Harbor during the fire, and Avalon emergency medical service assisted at the scene. The fire was investigated by the Cape May County Fire Marshal and Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office.

Stone Harbor Police Release:
(The fire was reported by) A 911 call received from a neighbor who observed flames coming from the building. Upon arrival, officers found all six condo units to be unoccupied.
The Stone Harbor Fire Department arrived on scene within four minutes of the initial call and had the fire under control within an hour.
Assistance was provided by the following area fire departments; Avalon, Cape May Court House, Green Creek, Rio Grande, Dennisville, Stone Harbor Rescue Squad and the Avalon Rescue Squad. No injuries were reported.
The incident is under investigation by the Cape May County Fire Marshal’s Office, Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office and the Stone Harbor Police Department.
