DENNISVILLE – As dark clouds crept overhead and thunder rolled across the sky, little did two residents of Dennis Township know that they would be directly impacted by the storm gathering.
Around 6:30 p.m. July 28 Dennis Volunteer Fire Company responded to the initial call; a lightning strike on a house on Tyler Road in Dennis Township.
Fireman Stephen Stagg, of Dennis Volunteer Fire Company, reported that during the height of the storm, lightning struck the roof of the home, setting fire to it. Firefighters needed about two hours to extinguish the blaze and remained on site for an additional three hours. Bruce Knoll, Jr., public information officer for Dennis Volunteer Fire Company, reported that the residence received “extensive damage.”
About 30 minutes after the first call, Dennis Volunteer Fire Company received another alarm regarding a lightning strike, this one along Route 47. Unlike the first fire, this one was contained to the attic area atop the third floor of the domicile within an hour of units arriving on scene.
In addition, firefighters from Ocean View, Belleplain, Woodbine, Tuckahoe, Marmora, Seaville, Goshen, Cape May Court House, Green Creek, Erma, Villas, Stone Harbor, Heislerville, Cumberland, Leesburg, Port Norris, Mauricetown, and Rosenhayn assisted at one or both of the locations.
No fire-related injuries were reported in either incident.

Cape May – Governor Murphy says he doesn't know anything about the drones and doesn't know what they are doing but he does know that they are not dangerous. Does anyone feel better now?
