GOSHEN — A multi-alarm fire destroyed a farm house built in 1884 here at 477 Route 47 around 2:45 a.m. Wednesday, Feb 11.
According to Middle Township police, Goshen Fire Chief Bob Meyers immediately responded to the scene. He found that the house was engulfed with flames. At that time, Meyers made the request for “mutual aid” from surrounding fire districts to respond to the scene to assist the Goshen Fire Company with fighting the fire.
Members from Middle Township Fire Company, Green Creek Fire Company, Rio Grande Fire Company, Villas Fire Company, Dennis Fire Company, Middle Township Ambulance Corps and Belleplain Ambulance Corps responded to assist the Goshen Fire Company with battling the fire.
David Appenzeller, owner of the home, and George Kamm were living in the older farmhouse at the time, and evacuated the home safely, along with two dogs.
The Cape May County chapter of the American Red Cross responded to provide emergency assistance to the displaced residents.
Traffic was detoured around this location of Route 47, for 2 1/2hrs, until the scene was secured.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time, by Detective Sgt. Murphy, of the Major Crimes Unit, Patrolwoman Greenwaldt, and the Cape May County Fire Marshal’s Office.
According to tax records, the home was built in 1884 and is owned by Appenzeller
