GREEN CREEK– A house at 325 Route 47 South was destroyed early this morning in the Green Creek section of Middle Township at 4:01 a.m., according to Middle Township Police.
When Patrol Officers arrived they found the house to be fully engulfed. Green Creek and Rio Grande Fire companies initially responded to the scene.
Cape May Court House, Villas and Goshen Fire companies were subsequently called and assisted. There was no one home at the time of the fire.
The Cape May County Fire Marshal and Middle Township Major Crime Unit is investigating the cause of the fire.
At 3:00 p.m., the Green Creek fire department was called back to the scene by Herald reporter Harry B. Scheeler, Jr. He observed smoke coming from the front of the house.
The smoke was determined to have come from a filing cabinet that was smoldering. Firefighters took the cabinet apart and extinguished what was burning.
