A structure fire tears through a home at 222 118th St.

By Press Release

STONE HARBOR – The Stone Harbor Fire Department was dispatched for a report of heavy smoke in the area of 118th Street April 15, around 7 a.m.
According to the department’s Facebook page, SHPD arrived in the area and found a structure fire, at 222 118th St. Chief Stanford requested a first alarm structure fire response, which dispatched Station 13, Station 70 (Court House), and Station 73 (Green Creek) (RIT).
Upon arrival, the building was heavily engulfed in flames. Crews went to work extinguishing the fire, which was extremely difficult due to the fire extending into numerous voids in the structure. A special request was made for a squad from Avalon and an engine from Dennisville for additional manpower.
Avalon BLS was requested to stand by at the scene. The fire was controlled within an hour, but crews remained on scene to perform an extensive overhaul.
The Cape May County Fire Marshal investigated the fire and determined it to be unintentional.
