SOUTH DENNIS – A Dennis Township home was damaged by fire on Robin Drive in the evening hours of May 4. According to a press release from Dennis Volunteer Fire Co., Dennisville firefighters were dispatched to a reported garage fire at approximately 8:50 p.m. When firefighters arrived, they found smoke and flames showing from a garage that was attached to the home, and requested additional manpower to fight the fire.
Firefighters made entry and were able to contain the fire to the garage and kitchen area of the home, officials said. The fire was placed under control in approximately 45 minutes.
Firefighters remained on scene for approximately two hours performing ventilation of the building. The home’s garage and kitchen suffered extensive fire damage, while the remainder of the home suffered smoke damage, officials said.
Firefighters from Dennisville, Ocean View, Belleplain, Woodbine and Goshen responded to the blaze.
All occupants were able to exit the home safely, and no injuries were reported. Initially, one cat was unaccounted for, but firefighters located the cat in the home unharmed and were able to reunite it with the homeowners, officials said.
The New Jersey State Police and Belleplain Emergency Corps also responded to the scene. Firefighters from Seaville and Leesburg provided coverage in various firehouses during the incident.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Cape May County Fire Marshal’s Office.
