Dozens of Firefighters Put Out Blaze

By Bruce Knoll, Jr

OCEAN CITY — Firefighters were dispatched to the 10 block of Central Avenue Feb. 22 shortly after 9:15 a.m. for a reported structure fire.
When firefighters arrived, they found a two-story home with smoke and fire showing from the building, Captain Steve Costantino said.
Over 30 firefighters were needed to contain the blaze. Firefighters from Marmora Volunteer Fire Co. and Somers Point Volunteer Fire Co. also responded to provide coverage for Ocean City during the fire.
The fire caused extensive damage to the rear of the home but did not spread to any additional buildings. It was brought under control in approximately 30 minutes, and firefighters remained on the scene for nearly three hours dousing hotspots.
There were no reported injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
