Chimney Fire Spreads to Attic in Cold Spring Home

By

COLD SPRING – Firefighters were dispatched to a chimney fire on the 800 block of Cold Spring Avenue at 10 p.m. Feb. 13.
The fireplace deteriorated inside and caught the wall on fire, which extended up into the attic, according to Lew Megonigal, chief of Town Bank Volunteer Fire Company.
One adult and one child were home at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported.
It took about two hours for the fire to be put under control, added Megonigal.
Megonigal said fire companies from Town Bank, Erma, West Cape May and Cape May responded to the scene, along with Lower Township Rescue Squad and the Cape May County Fire Marshal.
“The fireplace was burning at the time,” said Megonigal. “The cause was accidental.”
