Boy, 7, Deemed Hero for Saving Mom When Home Was Ablaze at 3 a.m.

Bradley Bianchino and Coach Jason Steelman.

By Johanna Hovik

CLERMONT– Early Sept. 22, 7-year-old Bradley Bianchino awoke to flames, his home on Meadow Creek Drive in Clermont was on fire.
Thanks to the second-graders quick thinking, he made it to his mother, K.C. Battersby’s bedroom, awakened her and both safely escaped the blaze unharmed.
At 3:09 a.m. Ocean View Fire Company responded to the call. They were assisted by Dennis, Avalon, Sea Isle City, Seaville, and Court House fire companies for mutual aid.
Responders arrived and found flames extending into the home and made entry in search of family pets. Jazzy and Bob, beloved family cats, were rescued with no injuries.
Bianchino was recognized for his heroic efforts Sept. 26 at the Dennis Township Blue Devils football game. He was presented a special “Awake & Ready” trophy presented by volunteer Blue Devil coach and firefighter Jason Steelman for the boy’s bravery and heroic action.
Due to extensive damage to the family home, a GoFundMe campaign has been created to assist the family with living expenses.
Donations can be made to GoFundMe at: www.gofundme.com/vt4q3jqw.
