Fall fun in the Wildwoods

The fun continues in the Wildwoods long after Labor Day’s gone. With September’s wonderful weather and the the crisp air of a sunny October afternoon will call any weekend warrior back to the Wildwoods.
Wildwood Crest has a strong line up of special events. The community holds its annual Seafarers Celebration on Saturday, Sept. 20 along Sunset Lake where there will be a wide array of vendors and crafters, live entertainment and family fun ending with a bang over Sunset Lake with a beautiful display of fireworks at 9 p.m.
Sunset Lake is also the setting for the Wildwood Crest Adventure Races on Saturday, Sept. 27. This race will test your physical ability and endurance with a triathlon consisting of running, kayaking and bicycle races for both adults and children.
During the final weekend of September, thunder comes to the Wildwoods with the Thunder on the Beach Monster Truck Races, Sept. 26– 28 on the beautiful beaches of Wildwood.
With the rumble of high-powered engines echoing over the sand, the center of Wildwood offers visitors a change of speed with an Olde Time Italian Festival on Sept. 26-27. This free festival coordinated by the Order of the Sons of Italy of America features authentic Italian food, music, crafts, raffles and much more.
The highlight of this year’s festival is a free concert at the Fox Park Amphitheater starring Wayne and Jamie and the Aquanets, ERA 200 Band, 45 RPM, Joey & Mickey, Joey M, the Classics, The Exceptions, the Emotions, Charlie Gracie, the Soul Survivors, Joey Dee and the Starlighters, Lenny Coco and the Chimes and Freddie “Boom Boom” Cannon.
Within the Wildwoods Convention Center that very weekend is the second annual Wildwoods By The Sea Film Festival held Sept. 25-28. This international film festival offers exciting new films from filmmakers all around the world. Film screenings, workshops, awards ceremonies and after parties with famous actors, directors, producers and filmmakers makes this a weekend not to be missed by movie lovers.
On Saturday, Sept. 27 the Wildwoods Convention Center will be hosting the South Jersey Roller Derby Championships. Whether it’s your first time or you’re familiar with this high-speed-hard hitting sport, the Derby promises to be an evening of excitement.
The start of October doesn’t mean the fun slows down in the Wildwoods. Oct. 3-5 brings the Mid-Atlantic Barber Shoppers Convention and Concert back to the Wildwoods Convention Center.
The performances of old-fashioned barbershop quartet harmony, quartet and chorus singing doesn’t stay with in the walls of the Convention Center, these vocalists like to take their craft to the streets. So take a drive around town and check out these vested vocalists practicing their truly remarkable talents.
In Wildwood Crest, Sunset Lake will be roaring with high-powered boats from the Hydrofest on Oct. 4-5.
The Fall Thunder on the Sand Pro/Am Motocross Races will be held on Oct. 10-12. Expert motocross racers from across the country compete in an exciting display of motorcycle prowess. However, flips and jumps aren’t the only exciting entertainment on the beaches that weekend. The Great Fall Classic Surf Fishing Tournament casts off on Oct. 11 and challenges anglers of all ages.
The Wildwoods will celebrate their important standing as the birthplace of Rock n’ Roll with an island wide Fabulous ‘50s Weekend, Oct. 17-19 at the Wildwoods Convention Center’s Oceanfront Arena.
The weekend also includes a 1950s memorabilia show and sale, exhibits of ‘50s antiques and pop-culture, Doo Wop trolley tours and much more. Legendary disc jockey Jerry Blavat will host an old fashion Sock-hop on Friday, Oct. 17 to get the party started.
