Wildwood’s Park Boulevard Floods Oct. 27; Caused Redding Bridge to Close Temporarily

Park Boulevard flooding Oct. 27

By Al Campbell

WILDWOOD — During high tide Oct. 27 in the morning, Park Boulevard was flooded. That stopped most from traversing the street but not all.
As John Mormello’s photos show, a stalwart bicyclist and a pickup truck driver were unhindered by the storm’s high water.
Wildwood Police sent a text alert at 9:38 a.m. that the George Redding Bridge was closed by the N.J. Department of Transportation due to flooding.
At 11:48 a.m. the department sent another text that urged citizens to use New Jersey Avenue when traveling through the city, as Park Boulevard was under water. Police urged in that message, “Park Boulevard is completely under water and should not be used for travel. Rio Grande Avenue has been closed west of New Jersey Avenue and the George Redding Bridge is inaccessible due to the flooding.
At 4:20 p.m. the department sent a message stating that the Redding Bridge was open to traffic with one lane clear in each direction. At that time it stated, “Most of Park Boulevard is also passable with the exception north of Oak Avenue.”
The flooding was the result of a nor’easter that dumped rain on the county. That rain caused a number of planned activities throughout the county, including the Boo at the Zoo to be canceled.
