PETERSBURG – Upper Township’s municipal engineer Paul Dietrich reported to municipal governing body members at their Oct. 11 meeting on the status of Strathmere beaches.
The sandy shores suffered erosion in the aftermath of Hurricane Ian’s remnants.
“Whale Beach is okay. However, the north end of Strathmere continues to see severe erosion. The beach is pretty much gone at high tide in the vicinity of the base of the dunes,” said Dietrich.
“We’re expecting beach fill replenishment around late June or early July (2023), but there won’t be a lot of dry beaches expected for summer in this particular area of Strathmere,” he concluded.
