CREST HAVEN – When the blossoms burst forth and trees begin to show new leaves, it must be time for Earth Day.
As Cape May County prepares to mark Earth Day April 20 at the Cape May County Park and Zoo, three Earth Day logo winners were recognized for their design expertise by freeholders April 9.
First-place winner was Odalys Mendoza, of Cape May County Technical School.
Second place winner was Amber Moore, also of the Technical School.
Third place went to Brooke Middleton of Ocean City Intermediate School, she was absent from the presentation.
The annual contest is sponsored by the freeholders and Park and Zoo to commemorate the county’s Earth Day celebration. The 2019 theme is “Protect All Species,” and was represented by Mendoza’s design, which will also be featured on this year’s official T-shirt for the event.
Earth Day will be marked at the County Park and Zoo, April 20 beginning with a one-mile run at 8:30 a.m. and a 5K race at 9 a.m.
The fair will continue from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. with a variety of activities including live music, an interactive drum circle, and educational exhibits.
Featured this year will be Superheroes training to “Save Planet Earth,” as well as crafts and a food court.
