Crossing Roads Is No Hurdle for the Strathmere Turtles

By Press Release

STRATHMERE – The Strathmere Fishing and Environmental Club (SFEC) will try to protect traveling terrapins when it launches its new sign, complete with a movable turtle, April 28, at 10 a.m., at the southern end of Strathmere, heading toward Sea Isle City.
The SFEC is hooking up with the Wetlands Institute of Stone Harbor, which will provide the SFEC with information to help them keep tabs on turtle activity in Strathmere. The turtle on the sign will then be moved to indicate the amount of activity for the day, ranging from low, moderate, high, to extreme. In this way, motorists, bikers, joggers, and walkers will be aware of turtle traffic in Strathmere and take necessary precautions.
Please join Sallie Callihan, president of SFEC; and Brian Williamson, research scientist with the Wetlands Institute, for this timely turtle event.
For further information, contact Sallie Callahan at (717) 979-1131 or email bsjj911@comcast.net.
