Belleplain Communications Dispatch Center Struck by Lightning

By Harry B. Scheeler Jr.

BELLEPLAIN — The Belleplain Emergency Corps Communications center was struck by lightning as a severe thunder storm passed throughout the area in mid-afternoon July 27.
Belleplain handles all 9-1-1 calls for Dennis Township, Woodbine and the Woodbine Developmental Center.
According to Cape May County Emergency Management Director Francis J. McCall, at about 4:20 p.m. the county took over 9-1-1 calls for Belleplain after they took a lighting hit.
It is unknown how long Belleplain dispatch will be down, but they do have people working on the problem and will continue to cover Woodbine and Dennis Twp 9-1-1 calls until they are relieved, said McCall.
No further information is available at this time.
