County Teachers’ Salaries Vary Greatly

County Teachers’ Salaries Vary Greatly

By Vince Conti

TRENTON – The New Jersey Department of Education has released median teacher salaries for 657 school districts across the state. The figures show a large amount of variance within counties.
For the 16 school districts in Cape May County, the range is from the highest median salaries in Ocean City, at $89,896 to the lowest in Dennis Township, at $50,093. Statewide Ocean City ranks eighth among the 657 districts listed in the state figures and Dennis Township ranks 627th.
The table of the median salaries by district shows that Cape May County has three districts that rank in the top 30 in the state and three that are in the bottom 100.
The highest median salaries in the state are in Bergen County in the North Valley Regional School District at $108,867. The lowest is at Classic Academy Charter School in Passaic County at $42,000.
The statewide median teacher salary for 2018 was $67,812, leaving 10 of the 16 districts in Cape May County below that median.
Among the many factors that can impact median salaries include grades offered in a district and the cost of living in a particular area where contracts have been negotiated.
