PRINCETON — American Red Cross disaster workers continue to work around the clock to provide safe shelter, food and comfort to people affected by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.
“More than 6,000 Red Cross disaster workers are on the ground in areas hit hard by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma providing help and hope to those impacted by these devastating storms,” said Ana Montero, CEO, American Red Cross New Jersey Region. “More than 100 disaster workers from New Jersey have deployed to help people affected by the hurricanes. We are grateful to all of the volunteers, community partners and donors who make disaster relief possible.”
In the last three weeks, the Red Cross and community partners have provided more than 908,000 overnight stays in emergency shelters across eight states, Puerto Rica and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The Red Cross has served more than 2.4 million meals and snacks to people in need.
Nearly 275 Red Cross emergency response vehicles have been mobilized to support relief efforts. In areas where it is safe to travel, emergency response vehicles are out in affected neighborhoods distributing meals, water and relief supplies such as diapers, bug spray, cleaning supplies, coolers, and comfort kits that contain deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste and other hygiene items. Three Red Cross emergency response vehicles from New Jersey have been deployed to tsouthern states to support relief efforts.
The Red Cross is part of a large team of agencies and organizations responding to provide help to those in need.
