DENNISVILLE – Developers seeking to create a Super Wawa near the site of the existing Wawa on Route 47 in Dennis Township have received approval, with fewer gas pumps and more parking for vehicles pulling trailers.
Attorney Stephen Nehmad, representing 47 Developers LLC, asked the Dennis Township Consolidated Land Use Board (CLUB) to approve the plan with five pumps instead of the eight originally proposed, and with the building being moved forward in order to accommodate more parking for vehicles with trailers.
The site plans are for an approximately 5,000-square-foot Wawa convenience store to be built on the site of an existing junkyard at 1089 Route 47 on the opposite side of the street from the existing Wawa.
The developers obtained the junkyard, which is just under 12 acres, but will be using a 2.36-acre parcel for the expanded Wawa. Nehmad presented an amended site plan at the May 25 CLUB meeting, which asked for no new variances.
In April, the Herald reported that the CLUB denied the proposal in July 2021, but the developer appealed, and at a hearing in fall 2022, a Superior Court judge overturned the local board’s ruling, authorizing the Wawa to proceed with development.
