Delaware Bay lighthouse adventure

By On Deck Staff

CAPE MAY—Board the 110-foot Cape May Whale Watcher for the final Delaware Bay Lighthouse Adventure, co-sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts (MAC) and the Cape May Whale Watcher on Saturday, Sept. 20.
Don’t miss the boat for the “Big Trip,” a seven-hour voyage of discovery and adventure up the Delaware Bay. See and photograph historic lighthouses that were built during the late 19th and early part of the 20th centuries to aid ships sailing the treacherous mid-channel of the Delaware Bay. Most of these lighthouses stand on pedestals out of sight from land, but are still operational and viewable by taking the “Big Trip.”
Expect to see all of the following Delaware Bay lighthouses viewable by boat: Cape May Lighthouse, Harbor of Refuge (Lewes), Delaware Breakwater East End (Lewes), Brandywine Shoal, Fourteen Foot Light, Miah Maull Shoal, Cross Ledge, Elbow of Cross Ledge and Ship John Light.
This thrilling seven-hour cruise not only offers superb lighthouse-viewing and photo opportunities, but includes narration on Delaware Bay lore and legend, and information on fishing, spawning grounds and the chance to see marine life, like dolphins and whales. Enjoy complimentary coffee and Danish in the morning, and a lavish cold luncheon with shrimp, finger sandwiches, cheese and fruit trays, and dessert, as well as a cash bar in the afternoon.
The “Big Trip” departs from the Miss Chris Marina, Second Avenue and Wilson Drive, at 10 a.m. Admission is $99 per person and seating is limited to 175 passengers. If a cruise is not sold out in advance, the remaining tickets will be sold at the dock 30 minutes before departure. Free parking is available at the marina.
