Dazed Angler Rescued from Marsh, Airlifted

STONE HARBOR –  Fisherman John Collins, 79, of Court House contacted Avalon Police Dispatch Nov. 15 at 6:40 p.m. to advise that he was lost and stuck in the salt marsh at Stone Harbor Point.
Stone Harbor Police Sergeant Michael Workman and Officer Richard Boyle responded and located the fisherman approximately 300 yards west of 122nd Street and Third Avenue. Officers began treating the male for hypothermia and shock as they began carrying the male from the marsh area who had become disoriented.
Stone Harbor Fire Department and Rescue Squad arrived on scene and further assisted in removing the fisherman from the marsh. Based on his condition due to exposure to the elements, he was transported to 80th Street recreation field where he was airlifted by helicopter to Atlantic City Medical Center.
