Villas Home Search Nets Illicit Drugs, Gun

By Herald Staff

VILLAS — A “long-term narcotics investigation” in the 1700 block of Morris Avenue ended July 13 when police and the county Regional SWAT team entered a home in the late evening, and drugs were reportedly found.
According to Lower Township police, members of the Detective Bureau, County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotics Task Force and the Regional SWAT team entered the dwelling based on information received from intelligence sources that the individuals may have been in possession of firearms.
Because of that information, the SWAT team was utilized in execution of the search warrant.
After making entry, the SWAT team secured the occupants and location.
Detectives and Prosecutor’s Office personnel entered the residence after it was secured, and located approximately one ounce of crack cocaine, numerous glass pipes used in smoking crack cocaine, scale and numerous unidentified prescription drugs.
In addition, one of the suspects admitted knowledge of a handgun in the residence, and showed officers where it was located.
That handgun was a Ruger .357 magnum.
As a result, Joseph G. Hoover, a.k.a. Buddy, 47, of the 1700 block Morris Avenue, was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and drug paraphernalia.
Daniel Payne, 46, of the 1700 block Morris Avenue was charged with possession of cocaine, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Both were charged on warrants with bail set at $50,000 by Municipal Court Judge David DeWeese.
Also arrested and charged in the operation were the following, who were charged and released on summonses:
Sunny Ennis, 43, of the 700 block Bayshore Road, Villas, was charged with two counts of possession of prescription narcotics.
Jason Bodine, 29, of the 1700 block Morris Avenue, was charged with drug paraphernalia.
Police reported that they focused particular attention on this case due to information that the residence was allegedly being used as a “crack house,” or a location where individuals can purchase and consume their drugs at the same location.
After entering the residence and location about eight individuals inside, “it appears that many of the individuals located within were in the process of either buying or using crack cocaine due to the large amount of broken glass pipes scattered throughout the home,” according to a police release.
Lower Township detectives, aided by the county Prosecutor’s Office Narcotics Task Force investigated the case.
