GREEN CREEK– On Dec 20, at approximately 11:00pm, Middle Township Police received a “911 call” requesting an ambulance respond to the Whispering Woods Motel, located in the Green Creek section of Middle Township for a reported cut lip. Upon the arrival of Middle Township Rescue and Patrolman Steven Novsak it was learned that the victim, Claude Nelson, 21 years old, had been attacked and sliced with a “box cutter type weapon”. Claude Nelson was transported to Cape Regional Medical Center for treatment. The investigation was then turned over to the Middle Township Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit for further investigation.
On Dec 23, the Middle Township Police Department Major Crimes Unit, with the assistance of the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office arrested and charged William “JB” Hoyle, 26, of 101 West 16th Street, North Wildwood with aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a weapon. Bail was set at $100,000 full cash by Judge George Neidig.
Also charged, as a result of this investigation, was Rachel A. Miller, 21, of 101 West 16th Street, North Wildwood. Miller was charged with aggravated assault by aiding Hoyle with the commission of a crime. It was revealed through the investigation that Miller drove Hoyle to the Whispering Woods Motel for the purpose of committing aggravated assault . Bail was set at $25,000 full cash by Judge George Neidig.
Both Hoyle and Miller were incarcerated at the Cape May County Correctional Facility in lieu of bail. The victim, Claude Nelson, was released early the next morning from Cape Regional Medical Center.
