Social Media Tip Leads to Arrest of Man Wanted for Shoplifting

By Herald Staff

WOODBINE – New Jersey State Police arrested a man suspected of shoplifting over $700 worth of seafood from a food store in Upper Township on Dec. 26 and Dec. 29 hours after posting surveillance photos of the suspect on social media Jan. 12.
Within hours of their Facebook post, Trooper Steven Hillesheim received an anonymous tip that led to the arrest of Reginald T. Cason, 60, of Woodbine.
According to police, Cason was arrested at his residence without incident. He was processed at Woodbine Station and charged with shoplifting for the two incidents in Dec.
“When we capture stills from surveillance video, the images are often grainy and slightly distorted,” police stated in a post Jan. 13. “We have confidence in our detectives and the solid leads provided by our social media followers.”
The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.
