CAPE MAY COUNTY SHERIFF STEPS UP CHILD SUPPORT ENFORCEMENT IN COUNTY
Cape May Court House – Cape May County Sheriff Gary Schaffer today (Wednesday, Nov. 4) announced that the Cape May County Sheriff’s Office is stepping up enforcement of child support orders issued by the Superior Court of New Jersey.
This new program is a multi-faceted program designed to enhance the department’s ability in the child support area. Sheriff Schaffer said, “The Cape May County Sheriff’s Office has a long standing reputation of enforcement when it comes to warrants issued for violation of child support orders. However, we want to put violators on notice that non payment will not be tolerated.”
Sheriff Schaffer added, “We have met with the probation department who oversees child support issues. Through enhanced cooperation between our two agencies we will now aggressively begin the pursuit of violators in an effort to collect payments that are court ordered on behalf of the children and families involved. Additionally, as the program becomes more focused, we will be seeking help from the citizens of Cape May County to assist us in locating individuals who are wanted for violation of child support payments.”
In addition to requirements from the State of New Jersey, the Sheriff’s Office will be involved with local agencies in various “Child Support Sweeps” throughout the year.
Sheriff Schaffer concluded, “I have redirected efforts of our sheriff officers, along with enhancing our working relationship with probation, to make this happen. I strongly suggest that if you are an individual who is not in compliance with your court ordered payments; you make every effort as soon as possible to comply.”
