VILLAS — Lower Township police, aided by the county Consumer Affairs Department, were able to apprehend Dewel C. Smith, 39, of the 100 block Tennessee Avenue July 10 for allegedly victimizing homeowners in need of canvas awning work done around their residences.
Detectives arrested Smith without incident and transported him to headquarters for processing.
Smith was charged with theft by deception and theft by not making proper disposition of property received.
The amount of money in question was in excess of $1,000, making it a crime of the third degree.
Municipal Court Judge David DeWeese set Smith’s bail at $15,000. He was remanded to county jail in lieu of bail.
Detectives Chris Lambert and Edward Dougherty and Patrolman Eric Coombs investigated the case.
