SEA ISLE CITY – Recently, the Sea Isle City Police Department investigated a phone scam involving the imitation of a Sea Isle City police officer and the “spoofing,” or fraudulent use, of the department’s main phone number.
According to the department’s Facebook page, during the phone call, the suspect identified himself as a Sea Isle City police officer and advised the victim that they have outstanding warrants out of state that they must pay with gift cards.
The department informs the public that the Sea Isle City Police Department does not contact subjects with warrants via phone and demand money in lieu of arrest.
Anyone who receives a phone call from that department that seems suspicious are advised to hang up the phone, verify the department’s phone number, (609) 263-4311, and manually call back the department.
Those who have experienced a similar fraudulent call should notify the police department.
