Police Warn Merchants of Funny Money

OCEAN CITY — Police here are urging merchants to check their incoming cash from sales for counterfeit bills following two recent incidents in which fake $100 bills were passed to Asbury Avenue merchants.
On first examination, the bills appear to be fairly good in quality, police said, but they have been reproduced using a copying machine. The $100 bills are being copied onto bleached $5 bill backgrounds. It appears that the bills are only being bleached where the number denominations are shown.
Police urged merchants to use counterfeit identifying pens as well as inspection of the bills other features including watermarks when accepting large bills.
Police are looking for four individuals with the following descriptions:
1. Black male, 20-30, slim build, 5’10”, sharp facial features
2. Black male, 20-30, 5’6″, 130 lbs.
3. Black female, 40, well dressed three-piece suit, 170 lbs., 5’10”, gray hair on sides only
4. Black female, 30, stocky build, sloppy dress, 5’7″
Anyone having contact with persons fitting the above description should contact Ocean City police immediately by dialing 9-1-1.
