Police Nab Alleged Drug Dealer in Rio Grande Motel

RIO GRANDE — County Prosecutor Robert L. Taylor and Middle Township Police Chief Chris Leusner announced the arrest of a Rio Grande man, culminating a four-month undercover narcotics investigation involving multiple local law enforcement agencies including the Prosecutor’s Office Gangs, Guns and Narcotics Task Force, the North Wildwood Detective Bureau and the Middle Township Police Department Street Crimes Unit.
During the evening hours of Nov. 6, members of the Cape May County Regional SWAT Team, the Prosecutor’s Office, the Middle Township Street Crimes Unit and the county Sheriff’s K-9 Unit executed an arrest warrant and court authorized search warrant at Room 115 of the Shelton Motel, 1410 Route 47.
As a result of the search warrant the following items were seized: approximately 2.5 ounces of cocaine, having a street value of $3,000; 58 prescription pills, having a street value of $1,800; a small amount of heroin; over $10,000 in U.S. currency; along with manufacturing and packaging materials.
Authorities arrested Jason Miller, 35, of Rio Grande. He was charged with numerous drug offenses and lodged in county jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail set by Municipal Court Judge George Neidig.
Taylor commended the exceptional work of the Gangs, Guns, and Narcotics Task Force and cooperating agencies and indicated the Task Force will continue to target high level drug dealers and the seizure of their assets.
If convicted, Miller faces up to 10 years in state prison on his second-degree charges and between three and five years for his third-degree crimes.
According to the state Department of Corrections, Miller was incarcerated for five years previously on parole, theft, conspiracy, receiving stolen property and drug charges. He began serving time in May 1995 and was released from Bayside State Prison in April 2000.
