Police: Man Spits on Officers, Hurts Self, Detective

WILDWOOD CREST – Wildwood Crest Police were called to a motel on the 7200 block Seaview Avenue for a disorderly person May 28 at 10:44 p.m.  
Upon arriving, officer’s found Tyler B. Caspersen, 22, of Garnet Valley, Pa., acting in a disorderly manner. Patrol Officer Lorenzo Plaza arrested Caspersen for alleged defiant trespass at the property.
Upon arriving at police headquarters, Caspersen became unruly, not following directions, spitting on officers and attempting to pull away from Plaza and Detective James Mulholland. While doing so, a wooden door was damaged injuring Caspersen and Mulholland. Mulholland was treated for minor injuries at police headquarters. Caspersen was taken to Cape Regional Medical Center by Wildwood Crest Rescue, where he was treated and released the same night, and returned to police headquarters.
Caspersen was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, throwing bodily fluid on a law enforcement officer, defiant trespass, disorderly conduct and criminal mischief. 
He was lodged at the Cape May County Correctional Center awaiting a hearing.
The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty. This report is based on information received from law enforcement.
