Police Charge Whitesboro Man with Robbery

By Herald Staff

RIO GRANDE — On March 22, 2009 Shannon Remey, 21, of Rio Grande came to Middle Twp Police Headquarters to report an incident that occurred on the previous night between her and her boyfriend, Jerry Johnson, 23, of Whitesboro.
Remey reported she became involved in a physical altercation with her boyfriend during an argument. She said Johnson grabbed her by her hair, threw her on the bed, at which point he struck her in the face several times and strangled her until she was nearly unconscious while saying he was going to kill her.
Remey reports that Johnson then broke her cell phone and disassembled her motel room phone so she could not call police. Johnson then held her in the room for two hours, refusing to let her leave. According to police, whenever Remey attempted to leave he would grab her and begin assaulting her again.
During the incident, Johnson took $50 from the victim. Johnson finally left on his own, at which time Remey fled to a relative’s home, where she stayed until finally going to the police to report the incident.
During the investigation, Johnson was subsequently arrested and charged with first-degree robbery, criminal restraint, terroristic threats and criminal mischief. He was lodged in the county jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.
The incident is being investigated by Ptlm James D’Alonzo and Detective Bob Shepherd.
