MIDDLE TOWNSHIP POLICE RELEASE:
On Sunday 7-12-2009 at 11:42 pm Middle Township Police received a call from a resident on Geneva Avenue in reference to an explosion in the street in front of her residence. Upon arrival of Officer’s from the Patrol Division the caller explained that while sitting on her front porch, she observed a vehicle drive by, then heard a loud bang. The caller described the sound as explosive in nature. The caller advised she observed a small dark colored vehicle, possibly a Hyundai, with two white female subjects at the time of the incident. A check of the street in that area by Officer’s revealed three containers, one of which appeared to have been destroyed. The other two containers appeared to have been intact and did not detonate. The containers were filled with unidentified liquid and other materials known to cause an explosion.
As a precaution the Atlantic City Bomb Squad was summoned to the scene to ensure safe disposal of the items. After rendering the devices safe, they were collected for evidentiary purposes to identify the suspects. Once identified, criminal charges will be forthcoming.
The Middle Township Police Department would like to remind the public that if they are to come into contact with any type of suspicious bottles or items to notify their local Police immediately and DO NOT TOUCH the item. According to Explosive Experts the items can be extremely dangerous should they fail to explode.
