Police Apprehend Would Be Bank Robber

DIAMOND BEACH — On July 28 at approximately 10:38 a.m., a middle aged white fe-male entered the Crest Savings Bank here attempting to rob it.
The female, later identified as Donna L. Wagenhoffer, age 43, of the 7400 block of Pacific Avenue in Wildwood Crest, approached the a bank teller and made mention of the fact that no other customers were in the bank.
According to police, she then stated while making a gun pointing gesture with her hand, “I am desperate, I have a gun, give me the money.”
Wagenhoffer reportedly made the statements two times before fleeing the bank without any money.
Witnesses observed the subject leaving the area of the bank on a silver and blue men’s Huffy mountain bike wearing shorts and a light blue shirt with her hair in a ponytail and wearing a baseball cap.
Almost immediately following the description of the suspect to patrol units, Lower Town-ship Class II Officer John Menz who was patrolling the Diamond Beach Section of the town-ship, located Wagenhoffer on her bike on St. Louis and Pacific Avenues just into the bor-ough of Wildwood Crest.
Wagenhoffer was detained at the scene by Menz with the assistance of Officer Jason Row-ello of the Wildwood Crest Police Department. After which Wagenhoffer was searched for weapons. No weapons were found.
She was transported back to the Crest Savings Bank where she was positively identified by witnesses.
After conferring with the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office and the local FBI Office, the Lower Township Police Department charged Wagenhoffer with attempted robbery of the bank, specifically for threatening the immediate use of a deadly weapon in the course of committing a theft while demanding money. This is a 1st Degree crime.
Wagenhoffer was subsequently lodged in the Cape May County Jail on $100,000 cash bail.
