‘Person of Interest’ in Hall’s Homicide Passes Polygraph Test, Denies Involvement

By Al Campbell

MANY, LA. — The Sabine assistant district attorney, named as a “person of interest” in the June 21 homicide of Dennis R. Hall, 36, formerly of Wildwood Crest, said he “passed a polygraph test he volunteered to take at the suggestion of the Sabine sheriff’s office,” in a July 22 Shreveport Times story. He also denied involvement in the crime.
Dennis Hall was the eldest son of Cape May County Herald Publisher Art and Patricia Hall.
In the story written by Times region reporter Vickie Welborn, Charles D. “Chuck” Soileau made that assertion in a letter to all of his clients. A copy of the four-paragraph letter was shared with The Times by Soileau’s attorney, Ted Hoyt, of Lafayette.
The results were forwarded to the sheriff’s office. The test was done with “knowledge and consent” of the sheriff’s office, the story indicated.
Soileau, a 10-year employee of the Sabine district attorney’s office, is the remaining one of three initial suspects in Hall’s shooting death June 21 at his Converse home.
Soileau denied any involvement in Hall’s slaying, Hoyt stated in The Times story.
Sabine District Attorney Don Burkett placed Soileau on paid administrative leave July 17 pending the investigation’s outcome.
Burkett removed his office from any involvement in the probe which is being handled by the Louisiana attorney general’s office.
No charges have been filed against Soileau. And no motive has been given for Hall’s death.
Hall, his wife and three children relocated to the 300-acre family farm, and the large family held reunions there on a regular basis.
The Soileaus and Halls were close friends, according to The Times.
