Ocean City Police Urge Citizens: Be Vigilant, Call

By Herald Staff

OCEAN CITY — The Ocean City Police Department has asked all residents to be vigilant in the activities occurring in their neighborhoods over the winter months.
In the last few weeks, the police department has been able to make arrests on several burglaries in progress due to citizen involvement.
Those concerned and observant citizens notified police when they observed suspicious persons in their neighborhoods. Based on the information provided by the citizens, crimes were prevented and arrests were made by police.
It only takes a phone call from a citizen when they have a concern about a suspicious person or incident, according to a release.
The police department encourages citizen involvement since it provides police with additional eyes to watch for unusual activity. As a resident callers are more familiar with what would be considered normal in their neighborhood.
When something does not appear normal, citizens are urged to call police and they will investigate.
Police cite the old saying, “It is better to be safe than sorry.”
The police department is in place to serve the community 24 hours a day, everyday, and they welcome the public’s assistance.
In Ocean City, for emergencies dial 9-1-1 and non-emergencies 399-9111.
