Motor Vehicle Theft Results in DWI Arrest

This report is based on information received from law enforcement.
FISHING CREEK – Officers of the Lower Township Police Department responded to Fishing Creek regarding a theft of a motor vehicle July 28 at approximately 8:30 p.m. 
After speaking with the reporting party, it was determined that her vehicle had been removed from her property without her knowledge or permission. 
After a brief, yet extensive search of the township, the vehicle was located at a North Cape May convenience store. It was being operated by John G. Bersani, 28, of Delran. Bersani is known by the victim.  
Bersani was questioned regarding the incident and ultimately taken into custody. He was transported to the Lower Township Police Department, where he was placed on a warrant and charged with unlawful taking by means of conveyance, fourth degree. Additionally, Bersani was issued summonses for driving while intoxicated, driving while suspended, and having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle. 
It was also determined that Bersani had multiple warrants, from multiple agencies. 
At the conclusion of processing, Bersani was transported to the Cape May County Correctional Center pending further adjudication. 
This incident was investigated by Special Officer Urquhart and Officer Flitcroft, with assistance from Sgt. Lewis, Officer Black and Officer Micciche.
The charges and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.
